Mariah Carey Inspired by Motherhood, Plots New Album‎

Mariah Carey is focusing all her attention on motherhood these days, but she hasn’t forgotten about her career. Monroe and Moroccan’s mother, who was playing music during the delivery of her twins, is already planning her next album, says husband Nick Cannon.

Aside from last year’s holiday collection Merry Christmas II You, the singer hasn’t released a studio album since Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel in 2009. “She’s been truly inspired by this experience and she can’t wait to get back into the studio,” Nick told Rap-Up.com. “She’s already been doing some preliminary work and meeting with a lot of producers and has tons of ideas, so I guarantee you can expect something soon.”

But one thing you shouldn’t expect is a collaboration between the new parents. “We might joke around and do something, but I’m not worthy to be in the studio with Mariah Carey. I do silly, jokey songs,” laughed the host of “America’s Got Talent,” whose comedy album Mr. Showbiz is now available on iTunes.

Nick, who’s working on a music album of his own with Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Akon, bounces ideas off his wife. “That’s my best friend. Anything I do—she’s my toughest critic. She’ll say something’s wack, she’ll call it out like that. If she loves something, she’ll say she loves it. That’s my right hand so anything I do, she’s definitely involved in it.”

When they’re together, the couple listens to throwback R&B records and gospel. “We listen to a lot of old school stuff like The Gap Band and El DeBarge. The Clark Sisters—a lot gospel music goes on in our house.”

Those who can’t wait for Mariah’s return may get a glimpse of her this fall on Fox’s “The X Factor.” “Her and Simon [Cowell] talk quite frequently about what she wants to do,” shared Nick, “but she’s Mariah so she’s only gonna do it if she can do it her way.”

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Leave the Hospital

Finally heading home as one big happy family, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were seen leaving UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California with their twins on Saturday (May 14).

With the first photos of the new mom and dad together just having been released, the elated mom and dad were all smiles as they drove away from the hospital with babies Moroccan and Monroe in toe - nearly three weeks after their premature birth (April 30).

Mariah took to her Twitter to gush about their happy homecoming, writing, “Dembabies aka Roc+Roe are sleeping peacefully: )”

Furthermore, proud papa Nick revealed an interesting tid-bit about the newborns arrival into the world, telling “My wife wanted to make sure that when the babies came out, that they came out not only to a Mariah Carey song, but a live performance from Mariah Carey - her Madison Square Garden performance of Fantasy - so they came out to a round of applause.”

Mr. Mariah Carey talks twins, tattoos and making the wife laugh

So what if he's married to one of the most famous, five-octave-range-singing, Hello Kitty-loving superstar artists on the planet? For comedian Nick Cannon, 30, being Mariah Carey's baby daddy means keeping it real.

We got him to dish on his own day-to-day craziness.

New York Post: Holy cow, Nick – twins! Are you exhausted?
Nick Cannon: Nah, I don't get tired (laughs).

You guys described the birthing process as an "I Love Lucy" episode – including how you got lost on your way to the maternity ward. What went down?
You know how we guys don't like to take directions. We'd been to the hospital a couple of times before and I was like, "I know where I'm going." I was trying to be Super Dad, carrying all the bags, and I went in through the wrong entrance. The hospital is hard to navigate – it's a big place!

Before the big day, you tweeted about being afraid you'd faint in the delivery room. Did you keep cool?
Yeah, I had the camera, so that helped me maintain my emotions. There was definitely a lot of blood, and I don't really like hospitals that much, but I was just like, "Focus on the camera."

What makes Mariah laugh?
Being silly. My characters. She actually loves talking in characters and stuff. We're always around the house talking in different accents.

Have you gotten any crazy baby gifts from celebrity friends?
Sharon and Ozzy [Osbourne] bought us this life-sized stuffed giraffe. And some Gothic thrones for the babies. That was a little... different.

You've already got "Mariah" tattooed across your entire back – will you get "Monroe" and "Moroccan" tattoos?
I don't know. I think I might be tattooed out. I was the person who said I would never get tattoos. So even to have that on my back is a big ordeal.

You recently gave out your real home phone number on your New York morning radio show. What were you thinking?
Well, luckily, we have more than one line, so now the line in the kitchen is designated for people to leave messages.

Have people been calling?
Oh, like crazy. It's mostly people calling to tell my wife how great she is, or to sing for her. The people who call to tell me how much they love my radio show are few and far between. One dude called and blatantly just said, "Hey, I need $5,000." You gotta respect that – he came out and asked for what he wanted.

Nick Talks About Mariah & Twins

Mariah Carey plans to have new record out this year

Nick Cannon is still recovering from the adrenaline rush of welcoming twins with wife Mariah Carey, but the actor/comedian/rapper is staying busy with a new stand-up special and forthcoming musical album, while Carey is working on a new full-length of her own.

"She's planning on having a record out this year," says Cannon of Carey, who gave birth to Moroccan Scott Cannon and Monroe Cannon on April 30. According to Cannon, Carey completed a good amount of recording a few months ago during her pregnancy. "She's been working away, and we have a studio in the crib, and [the pregnancy] has totally inspired her on so many different levels. You're definitely gonna see some new phenomenal music from Mariah."

Mariah Carey Babies: Victims of Tabloid Scam

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s new twins were almost victims of a tabloid scam last night. It’s a wild story exclusive to this column.

On Tuesday evening a woman from the Department of Child Protective Services showed up at the hospital while Carey was breastfeeding babies Monroe and Roc. The twins are just finishing up their stay in the NICU. Carey has stayed with them in the hospital following her C section and a minor infection.

The civil servant told Cannon she was following up a claim of neglect, of all things. The specifics: Carey was accused of drinking and taking pain meds while breastfeeding! Of course the real story was that a nurse on the floor had suggested Carey drink half a Guinness Stout in order to hasten production of breast milk. Mariah did just that and it worked. But someone in the unit sold her out, so to speak, hoping the social worker could get a picture of the babies for the tabs.

Luckily no pictures were allowed. Carey and Cannon, horrified, explained the situation. “Taxpayer money was wasted, too, because this was labeled an emergency. It was ridiculous.” Meanwhile, mom and kids, healthy and wiser now, head home shortly.

Whatever Mariah wants, Mariah gets…

Simon Cowell on Sunday denied that he had offered Cee Lo Green a high-profile gig on Cowell’s singing competition The X Factor.

“I had a meeting with him,” Cowell said ahead of X Factor’s first round of auditions in Los Angeles. “I just said hello. I didn’t offer him the job. The next thing I’m reading that he turned me down. We saw tons of people; nobody turned us down.”

Green, who serves as a celebrity coach on NBC’s Mark Burnett-produced rival The Voice, told reporters last month that had been offered a role on Fox’s X Factor but turned it down because he was “unfamiliar with the concept of The X Factor.”

He added: “I knew the name and I knew the parties involved, but as an enterprise, I didn’t know what made it distinctive enough.”

X Factor debuts in September, while Voice premiered two weeks ago to strong ratings (5.1 in the adults 18-49 demo) and improved 10% in its second week.

Cowell also denied that he had ever approached Rihanna about judging X Factor.

Meanwhile, Cowell on Sunday didn’t rule out the possibility of working with Mariah Carey in the near future.

“Whatever Mariah wants, Mariah gets,” Cowell said of the singer, who gave birth to twins with husband Nick Cannon on April 30.

“All she has to do is call me, and I’ll work out a deal,” he added. “I think she’ll have a presence on one of my shows.”

On Sunday, Paula Abdul officially joined Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Cheryl Cole on the X Factor judging panel. Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones are set to host.

X Factor is a co-production of Cowell’s Syco Television, Fox and Fremantle North America.

Mariah and Nick Reveal Baby Names

Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon have finally revealed the names of their twins who were born in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott is Nick's middle name, as well as his grandmother's maiden name.

The top tier of Mariah's New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It's also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!

Their daughter's name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah's rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.

In fact, Mariah purchased the Hollywood icon's white piano from Christie's auction house and it is in Mariah's will that the piano will one day go to the Smithsonian.

Mariah's rep, Cindi Berger, tells CNN, "It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn't be happier for all of them."

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Welcome Twins

April 30 is double the pleasure for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Not only did they welcome twins, but the couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary, too!

Carey, 42, delivered the babies Saturday at 12:07 p.m. ET at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to the Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs. 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches.

And it was just as Cannon, 30, predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.”

Berger tells PEOPLE “she’s doing great” and they were listening to Carey’s “We Belong Together” after the children were born. “I spoke to both of them and they are both completely overjoyed.”

Asked if the birth was planned to coincide with her anniversary, she said: “No, not even Mariah could plan that.”

“Nick was very nervous and Mariah was completely calm. Mariah thought it was another soft labor and Nick was driving her to the hospital and she very calm and the music was blasting,” she added. “When they walked into the hospital, [Nick] was going the wrong way and the nurse redirected them to go the maternity ward, and I said to her, ‘that’s right out of I Love Lucy,’ and she laughed.”

Long before the births, the couple made no secret of their desire to have children. Last October when they first made Carey’s pregnancy public, Cannon said that “the greatest gift on earth is a child.”

Throughout Carey’s pregnancy, the parents-to-be were cautious about revealing too many personal details since the couple had a “long journey” to parenthood, Cannon said in December.

That the singer was expecting twins was chattered about for months before Cannon finally confirmed it in December.

As for the origin of their babies’ names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. “They won’t be crazy names like Carburetor or something,” he promised. “But they’re definitely unique.”
