Rumour: Mariah Carey to star in movie with husband Nick Cannon
I actually thought Mariah Carey had a chance of doing more acting after her great performance in Precious. But news reaches me that Mimi is on the hunt for a romantic comedy to star herself and hubby Nick Cannon. Brace yourselves.

Together Forever
From this week's Ask Billboard:
According to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS), which electronically monitors radio stations in more than 140 U.S. markets and provides the data that powers Billboard's radio airplay charts, "We Belong Together" has been played 743,758 times through Wednesday (March 24).
I asked BDS Director of Data Services Adam Foster how that sum stacks up against other hit songs released five years ago.
Here is what Adam found:
"We Belong Together" began a 10-week run at No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart for the week of July 2, 2005. Here are the to-date detection totals at BDS-monitored U.S. terrestrial radio stations for Carey's smash and the other songs that were in the top 10 (in order) that week:
All-Format To-Date Plays, Artist, Title
743,758, Mariah Carey, "We Belong Together"
399,636, Gwen Stefani, "Hollaback Girl"
513,149, Kelly Clarkson, "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
226,340, the Black Eyed Peas, "Don't Phunk With My Heart"
160,319, Will Smith, "Switch"
279,099, Ciara featuring Ludacris, "Oh"
374,941, 3 Doors Down, "Let Me Go"
358,332, Papa Roach, "Scars"
244,448, 50 Cent, "Just a Lil Bit"
356,973, the Pussycat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes, "Don't Cha"
The total for "We Belong Together" is more 200,000 plays higher than its closest title ("Behind These Hazel Eyes") and twice the to-date average of the rest of that week's top 10 (323,693).
Not surprisingly, and even though it wasn't released until halfway through the decade, "We Belong Together" earned the honor of top title of the 2000s on the Billboard Hot 100 (a feat Carey proudly touted to the audience when I saw her in concert in January).

Mariah fans – Let’s Make History and Celebrate Mariah’s Birthday
Many reporters say no one can take the world by storm like Elvis or Michael Jackson and yet Mariah Carey has more number ones hits and ‘The VOICE’. What’s making them the standard of pop culture icons and not her? It’s their fans. Their fans are dedicated, enthusiastic and vocal.
Aren’t we cut from the same cloth? I mean were talking about our parents and grandparents generations here. And there’s NO way the Baby Boomers and Generation Xers can topple us. We’re Generation Now! So let’s act NOW to show the world how Mariah’s fans show their dedication.
On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1PM EST all Mariah Carey fans all over the world will do the exact same thing for an hour. We’ll call all the radio stations and request Mariah’s latest “Up Out My Face.” (Original version or the remix featuring Nicki Minaji) Now I’m not talking a placing one call and being happy that some receptionist recorded your request for that evening’s request rotation. I’m talking about you call, your friends call, their friends call, and their friends, etc. We are going to jam their phone lines with requests for one hour so they’ll play her song and talk about the constant phone request live on the air.
Here’s the rules:
1. Each Mariah fan (aka Lamb) must find locate the numbers of two of their favorite radio stations. (I state ‘numbers’ because many stations have more than one phone number for contest and song dedications.)
2. You MUST be friendly and kind. Explain that its Mariah’s birthday and you want to hear, “Up Out My Face” during the hour. When they record your request, thank them and state you love their station. Get off the phone quickly so other Lambs can call or so you can just call back using a different voice.
3. Then Twitter about your call and let the other Lambs know your progress at the following Mariah-based Twitter sites: HMB Movement Island Def Jam Mariah Connection
4. Then do it again until the hour is up. Let see how can place the most calls in 60 minutes. (NO CHEATING!)
The beauty of this is national news stations WILL report our activity when local radio stations get INUNDATED with fan calls. At first they’ll think her manager or record company put us up to this but then they’ll research the story online and discover it was a LAMB ATTACK in the name of love and dedication for Mariah. LET’S GO LAMB NATION!!!
(If you don’t know what time is equivalent to Eastern Standard Time (EST), please visit http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html to convert your time now.
LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!!

Mariah in New Tyler Perry Movie
Black Voices has learned that writer/director/producer Tyler Perry has selected the cast for next film, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."
At last night's premiere for his latest film, "Why Did I Get Married Too?," the black box-office maverick revealed that the cast will include Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, and Macy Gray.
Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, the film is scheduled to shoot in June in New York with a possible winter 2010/2011 release date.
The riveting play, consisting of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color -- deal with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion, garnered much acclaim, becoming the toast of Broadway when it opened at The Booth Theater in 1976.
It later morphed into an Emmy Award nominated television special and is still being performed around the world.
Elise and Carey are the only two that made the cut from Perry's initial wish list that he mentioned back in September 2009, which initially included 16-time Grammy Award winner Beyonce Knowles, Academy Award winner Halle Berry and media queen Oprah Winfrey.
"Making a film of 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf' is a dream come true for me," Perry said about the project. "Ntozake Shange's play is a magnificent tribute to the strength and dignity of women of color, and I think audiences of all generations will be able to recognize and embrace the experiences these women represent. Creatively, this movie is one of the most exciting undertakings of my career."
As previously reported by Black Voices, 'For Colored Girls' will be the first project for 34th Street Films, Perry's new production company, which is housed at Lionsgate.

Angels Advocate Album Update
MariahDailyJournal is able to confirm that the Angels Advocate album, a Remixed edition of Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel will not be released.
According to Mariah's management, the album will not be put out in the regular album fashion but they are working on releasing some singles off the album. "It won't go to waste," we were assured.
Mariah and her team have their focus set on the next album and how to put this out creatively and financially effective. "We are looking to go possibly to another studio album or Christmas album. The decision hasn't been totally made yet. It's a creative process that cannot be rushed."

Mariah Carey ft Ne-Yo: ‘Angels Cry’
A remix record is a curious beast, especially when the lion’s share of its contents aren’t exactly remixes, but tracks from a previous LP reworked to feature the Who’s Who of US R&B. Nonetheless, Mariah Carey’s upcoming Angels Advocate collection (we’re still clarifying the punctuation situation) is the singer’s 13th studio album and second remix disc - an impressive feat by anyone’s standards. In true Maz fashion, ‘Angels Cry’ is one of two trailer tracks launching it internationally.
A standout from last year’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel platter, it’s about as close to ‘classic’ Mariah as ‘new’ Mariah gets. Her vocals sound classy and effortless as the song launches into a chorus that twinkles, before Ne-Yo swoops in, cranks up the emotional dial and duly adds an extra dimension to the solo original. Yes, it’s a bit of a ‘We Belong Together’ retread, but it’s a thoroughly pleasant ‘We Belong Together’ retread that should help that rather tricky album to appeal beyond Carey’s core fanbase.

Cannon wants to make film with Carey
Nick Cannon wants to make a film with Mariah Carey.
The rapper-and-presenter claims his spouse is the funniest person he knows and he would love for them to show off her comedic talents in a joint venture.
He said: “I’d love to do a film with Mariah. But it would have to be a comedy. She’s the funniest woman in the world, she just cracks me up all the time.”
Mariah’s most recent big screen outing was as a dowdy social worker in ‘Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire’ and she admits she felt “tortured” by the role, although she believes it has made her a better person.
She said: “It was definitely a commitment to be seen looking that bad. I love Lee Daniels, the director, but he’s a sick man. He wanted to torture me.
“But you know, it freed me in a lot of ways. I don’t worry about certain things in the same way any more.”

Billboard: "Angels Cry" Remix Debuts at #30 on AC
Mariah Carey makes her 28th visit to the Adult Contemporary chart, as "Angels Cry" starts at No. 30. The song marks the first appearance on the list for featured artist Ne-Yo.
The ballad is the second song from Carey's album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" to reach the tally, following the No. 10-peaking "I Want to Know What Love Is." Carey had not charted two tracks from the same album on Adult Contemporary since the title cut from "Butterfly" (No. 11) and "My All" (No. 18) in 1997-98.
First released on "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" without Ne-Yo, the new version of "Angels Cry" previews Carey's duets/remix album "Angels Advocate," due March 30.

Curvy Mariah Carey fuels baby talk
Mariah Carey was her usual fabulous diva self backstage at the Film Independent Spirit Awards — tottering around on skyscraper heels so high she couldn’t walk and having security prop her up all night.
The star, upstaging other actresses in a tight black dress showing off her famous curves, was celebrating her cast mates from “Precious,” which swept the board at Friday night’s awards at the LA Live arena — seen as a more relaxed precursor to the Oscars.
Carey — who famously once said, “I don’t do stairs” — had personal security to help her totter onstage. And she further fuelled baby rumors by telling Page Six that she had “something special” on the way.
A source said, “Mariah came out as a presenter but she was having trouble in her heels, which were eight inches high and so spiky, she accidentally stabbed herself in one foot before she was helped onstage.
“She seemed to be the only star hanging onto personal security. Outside the press area she seemed really giddy and was overheard saying jokingly, ‘I don’t know if I can do this!’ And she didn’t arrive and leave through an elevator like the other stars. She had a BMW limo pull right up to the stage.”
Celebrating without husband Nick Cannon backstage, Carey did nothing to stop rumors that she’s pregnant or ready to adopt, telling us, “I have a lot of new acting projects coming up. I am talking to [’Precious’ director Lee Daniels] about at least three movies. But there’s also something else very special on the way. I can’t say any more.”
“Precious” dominated the Spirits, winning Best Feature, Best Director, Best First Screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher, Best Female Lead for Gabourey Sidibe and Best Supporting Female for Mo’Nique.
An overjoyed Jeff Bridges took the Best Actor gong for “Crazy Heart.” Also there: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Dave Grohl, Ben Stiller, Robert Duvall, Tom Ford, Lenny Kravitz, Rosario Dawson, Jodie Foster, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Matt Dillon.

Albums in 2010: Mariah Carey - Angels Advocate
The new year is gearing up to be a very good year in music. With new album releases from various artistes, TEENage has scoped out the most anticipated albums to date and compiled the ones we highly suggest are worth purchasing.
Mariah Carey: Angels Advocate
Mariah’s 13th studio album Angels’ Advocate is one to definitely watch. It is suspected that the album will consist of remixes of songs taken off Mariah’s previous album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel.
The album news originally leaked on Mariah’s official website, since then two music videos have been released for download, one for Up Out My Face with Nicki Minaj and the other for Angels Cry featuring Ne-Yo. Chances are that this album will be yet another success story for Mariah. Her 12 other studio albums have also included classics such as Butterfly, Rainbow, Glitter and The Emancipation of Mimi.

"People Think I Was Born In A Bubble"
At home in her Manhattan apartment, Mariah Carey talks about her troubled background, why she had to "de-Mariah" herself, and how "Precious" changed her life. Interviewed by Dawn Sutton
Mariah Carey has made our jaw drop. No, she's not on time, but she's starring in a film that's actually really good (who remember her previous foray into film, the so-bad-it's-bad Glitter!>). Her role in Precious- which is nominated for six Oscars- sees her sporting visible facial hair and is a huge change from Mariah's usual glamorous image- perhaps her marriage to Nick Cannon is making her mellow. The pair are even rumored to be looking to adopt a baby soon, and Mariah has taken an uncharacteristic back seat to writer some songs with her hubby to be sung by a new girl band.
Here, Mariah talks all about Precious, why she's dreading turning 40, and what it was like to get frumpy.
You're turning 40 later this year...
Don't say the F word around me! (Laughs)
You got married two years ago, your life has changed a lot. How are you feeling?
I would definitely say these are some of the happiest days in my life. I've been working on my album, which I am so excited about. I couldn't think of something, another project, that I would rather be in more than this.
When you started out did people try to change you?
I remember starting out and being at a record company at 19 and having someone tell me: 'This is your good side and this is your bad side. Don't ever let anyone take any pictures of you from that side. You look terrible from that side," and so on. It created this whole complex- like I didn't already have enough of a complex! I felt very different as a bi-racial person. Growing up where I did being half-black and half-white was a very weird and difficult thing because I didn't quite fit in either place and I moved around a lot. So when I went from that to this world, it was like, let's create an inferiority complex before we make this person go on TV and try to have self-confidence. That's what I love about Precious. I think that it's going to help a lot of people.
There's major Oscar buzz around Precious. How did you get the part?
I was a huge fan of the novel and I am not really an avid reader. A friend of mine passed me this book and said, "You have to read this book." Actually, what she said was, "All women of colour must read this book." But mainly we all need to read the book because there is an intensity that just leaves you stunned. It changed my life when I read it. Then, years later, I became close with Lee Daniels and found out that he was going the project. I was so excited. Then it came together and he asked me to be a part of the movie.
Did you meet people from troubled backgrounds to prepare for the film?
I come from a unique background- in my father's family there were a lot of troubled uncles and aunts and people that we weren't allowed to know who were in very intense situations that I couldn't even go into now. That's a whole other interview! But yeah, I've met people who have gone through similar things. Most people think that I was born in this magical bubble and here I am singing high notes- it wasn't like that. So yeah, I do know people who have been through some deep s**t.
Did you find it hard to 'de-Mariah' yourself for the role?
It was definitely a down-there moment. Lee even said, "Look, you have to change your walk. You have to walk differently." Obviously I walk around on my tiptoes even when I've got on my four-inch heels. Even if I took them off, I'd still be walking on my tip-toes. (Laughs) He was like, "You're up here- can we bring it down here?" So all of the little mannerisms that people might know me for, they had to be thrown out the window. The preparation was quick, quick, quick. Stripping away the layers is easy- it's just taking on another persona, another perspective and another point-of-view of another human being. It was stripping away and adding.
In the film you look so different from the diva we know and love. How did it feel to be frumpy?
It was crucial. If I'd have stood out as, here I am, a well-known person even looking remotely glamorous, it would have taken away from the essence of what the whole film is. It was tough, honestly, because I am so used to the music world which is so different with the cameras, the lighting, the angles and this and that. We were in fluorescent dentist office lighting- it was the worst lit scene of the movie on purpose. We did it specifically for a reason. But it's the overhead lighting, it's the dark stuff on her eyes. Lee caught me trying to put blush on and her said, "What are you doing? What are you doing?" And I was like, "Precious has blush on." He was not going for it. So it was just one of those things that I had to do. I guess I'll feel better about myself when I am just normal at my house walking past the mirror without make-up on. I'll be like, well I've looked worse! (Laughs)
