Back on April 30th, 2011, pop diva Mariah Carey and her multi-talented husband Nick Cannon celebrated the birth of their twins on the same day as their wedding anniversary. The showbiz twins, named Monroe and Moroccan, have been seemingly on lockdown since their birth, with the loving parents keeping them away from the paparazzi. This Friday, Barbara Walters gets the first introduction, as the glowing Hollywood couple introduces their baby boy and girl to the world.
All photos of the interview hide the faces of the twins, so that the on-air moment this Friday is the first actual glimpse of the almost 6-month-old babies. In addition to meeting the twins for the first time, the celebrity couple reveals details of their babies' personalities. The twosome was named after icon Marilyn Monroe and the Moroccan themed room in their New York apartment where Nick proposed. Nicknamed "Roe" and "Roc," the twins seem to be emulating their parents' behaviors. Cannon, the host of "America's Got Talent," boasts that daughter Monroe is a little diva like her mother, whilst son Moroccan is "laid back."
The 20/20 article gives Barbara Walters the chance to interview the couple about the twins -- clad in New York chic attire -- as well as the challenges of pregnancy and the strength of their marriage. With a ten-year difference in age -- Carey is 41 and Cannon is 31 -- many have questioned the potency of this odd coupling. Three and half years after their marriage, the couple added twins to their family and seem to be going strong.
This rare and controlled glimpse into the lives of Roe and Roc seem to suggest that the couple are taking parenting seriously, and doing all they can to protect and nurture their young brood. The singer who stunned fans with a raw performance in 2009's "Precious" admitted that pregnancy was tough on her, but was "a sacrifice you make for them." Allowing only the queen of celebrity interviewing this chance to introduce the twins to the world and by conducting the interview in the couple's New York home, it is clear that Mariah and Nick are set on keeping much of their family life and budding family protected and private, whilst still sharing the joy and excitement with their fans.
Tune into 20/20 on Friday, October 21st, to see if Roe and Roc look more like Mommy or Daddy. It may be the only opportunity for some time to come to get a glimpse into the Carey-Cannon home and to meet two future stars of Hollywood.
