Mariah Carey has reigned as queen of Christmas hits since All I Want for Christmas is You, released in 1994, became one of the most popular festive tracks of all time.
It has now been confirmed that she will release a new Christmas album on November 2 called Merry Christmas ll You, featuring covers including Little Drummer Boy and The First Noel.
It will also feature original songs including a track called Oh Santa.
Whilst Mariah has enjoyed massive success in the Christmas market she may have competition this year in the form of another internationally renowned female artist – Susan Boyle.
Su-Bo will also release a Christmas record featuring a duet with Amber Stassi, the ambulance woman she discovered through her ‘Search for a Star’ competition.
Earlier this year, retailer Amazon predicted Susan’s follow-up to I Dreamed a Dream would clinch the Christmas number one spot after it was reported that over 2 million people have requested to pre-order the Britain’s Got Talent star’s Christmas release.
An inside music source told The Mirror: “We haven’t seen this before. It’s months ahead of the release and already people are putting in requests for pre-sales. It’s an incredible achievement already.”
But with Mariah drafting in big gun producers including Jermaine Dupri, James Poyser and American Idol’s Randy Jackson, it seems she isn’t about to hand over her Christmas crown to Ms Boyle just yet.
